Success!

Ah... there we go. Well! I decided to start doing one of these because everyone else I know seems to be doing them and they seem like fun. Mine will probably be boring and all and I probably won't update it much, but... we'll see what happens.

I suck at HTML

It's really a good thing that blogger does so much work for me. I really just don't have the patience for HTML and mapping out the page. My homepage was done with Geocities' graphical page editor and the code is just atrocious. I think it'd probably work pretty well with a fairly simple table, but this thing created cells ALL over the place. It makes it next to impossible to make simple changes and the graphical editor screws things up so I have to do a lot of stuff over again. Also, my page doesn't look right in some browsers. One of these days, I'll have to fix my pages or get someone who has a clue to do it. Until then, my deepest apologies. And thank you, blogger!

It's a clean machine...

Well, I've updated my pages some. :) I cleaned up the HTML a bit, so it'll be easier for me to edit them in the future. And hopefully they'll now render nicer in different browsers. We'll see. The HTML is still a bit of a mess, but it's much better than it was. Using a graphical editor kinda sucks. Hopefully having more readable HTML will convince me to actually update the content. Not that I have anything interesting to say or anything.

I've been hit!

Woo hoo! My blog's had its first hit from a Google search! And the mystical phrase that brought this curious person here? Why, it was "through school naked", of course. Unsurprisingly, this came from someone using AOL.

He's got big balls

Another Google hit. This time, the terms were "sarah naked bowling". Interesting. What's the fascination with nudity here? Will I ever get a hit that doesn't involve the word naked? How many pages of search results did they have to go through to find mine? Freaks.

Words are very unnecessary

Well, I'll be silent for the next few days. I'm sure my legion of readers will understand. I don't even think they HAVE computers in Ohio and western Pennsylvania, so I couldn't blog if I tried. Enjoy the silence, pals. See you on Sunday.

Typo alert

Ryan caught a typo on my blog. He was ecstatic. After all the public teasing I give him for his interesting typing, I can't blame him. Here's to you, good buddy.

Bowling in the buff

Just what IS the fascination with naked bowling? The most popular Google search that hits my site involves naked bowling. I really didn't know such a thing existed. It makes me oddly curious.

You wanna try it?

So I added a comments thingy in. I'm not sure why, but it seemed like a fun thing to do. And it was just so easy. I guess that's how they get kids hooked on drugs.

New home!

Well, the move has been made to my new home on the net. Thanks go out to Ryan for setting me up with the new digs. I like it. I've also switched over to dotcomments for my blog commenting system. This should work out better than ReBlogger did for me. I know the colors are probably still kinda ugly, but... eh... I'm trying to figure out something prettier. For now, you must suffer.

Do you like... stuff?

I've updated my main page with a link to my brand spankin' new music page. Not that anyone cares what kind of music I like, but it was fun to do. I'm still trying to decide what I should do with this site of mine, but right now, I'll do lame stuff like put up little pages about stuff I like. :)

MP3s in da house...

A new feature for vestibule.org. The MP3 of the Week! I thought I'd give it a shot and see how it works out. It'd at least give my page SOME sense of purpose. Enjoy.

Yes. I am a follower.

Paul did it. Ryan did it. Katherine mentioned it. The peer pressure is too much. So I'm probably going to try to switch over to using Movable Type. I'll probably screw things up royally. As if my latest computer problems weren't enough. But it looks so neat and wonderfully configurable. And maybe it'll get me to finally learn webbish scripting languages and such. It'll probably be a bit before I do it, but I thought I'd babble about it now. Babbling is good.

It's... so... BIG...

Hrmmm... looking at the docs for Movable Type, maybe I won't be trying it out. It says it takes up 2 megs. With only 10 megs of space to work with in the first place, that might be a bit bigger than I can really afford to do. Either that or I could scale back the rest of my site and pretty much make it blog only. Which is an option, since I don't really do much else with my site anyway. Oh well. I guess I'll think about it.

The type... it's moving... duuude...

Well, I've made the plunge and transferred my blog over to using Movable Type. It was a fairly simple process, though I spent hours last night trying to figure out why all my entries seemed to be there but nothing was coming up on the main page. I tried several different things and was extremely frustrated until I finally realized that I'd set it to show only 7 days' worth of posts on the main page and I hadn't posted in over a week. Everything seems to be working fine now. The design could use some tweaking, as always, though I'll probably just leave it for now. I still have to import my old comments, but I'll get to that eventually. That's a pretty major task. Luckily, I don't have too many comments, but it'll still take some time. Anyhow... it was an interesting experience. Movable Type is cool.

The comments have returned from the dead...

With help from this post, the very helpful script mentioned in it, and some personal help from the author to work out some PHP compatibility issues, I've been able to import my old dotcomments from Blogger into my Movable Type blog. Woo. It was fairly frustrating, but everything worked out great with the author's help. It's always nice to find someone who's willing to help you out when you've got a problem.

I'm just glad that's over.

Now... where did my weekend go?

Long... what?

O.K. I wasn't going to say anything. But the trend is growing and getting out of hand. What the hell are "long nipples"? Just nipples that are long? Or is there something else to it? It's really scary just how many people have searched for that particular term and found their way to my site that way. At this very moment, my site comes up third in a search on Google (behind a site apparently devoted to extremely long nipples and another site claiming to be the number one site for links to pictures of transvestites).

I only WISH my site was so interesting.

Excuse the mess...

The site move to the new server seems to have gone well. I've been tweaking things to get stuff back to normal and I'm mostly there. I messed up my home page slightly by using a backup copy that didn't have the NaNoWriMo logo on it, so I'll fix that when I get home. Other than that, I think everything else is nailed down. Woo! Hopefully I'll get back to blogging more often again.

And on the third day...

Okie. Trying out a new color scheme and some slightly different fonts and such in a few places. Hope it's not too incredibly hideous or anything like that. I just thought the site could use a slightly new face.

The blog is back in town

Phew! Everything seems to be back to normal now. Sorry I was quiet for a bit. Since I was rapidly expanding out of my size and bandwidth limitations, Ryan helped me find a new host. I now have much more space to fiddle around with. Woo! Soon I'll be bringing a photo album online and stuff like that. It'll be keen.

I ran into a few issues installing MovableType on this new server, but that's all fine now. Just a bit of miscommunication with the hosting company, but I finally stopped babbling and made sense enough to them. :)

MP3 of the week redone

I just finished turning my old MP3 of the Week thingy into a MovableType blog. I sort of wish I'd done it slightly differently now, but I think the way I did it was more flexible anyhow. Unfortunately, I deleted all the stuff I said about each entry every week, so only a few of the entries still have text associated with them. Also, most of the comments don't make any sense because of that. I'll see if I can do anything about that. Anyhow... hopefully this will make it easier for me to do things, so it'll actually be weekly more often.

Next project... get a firmer grip on CSS, so I can redo the whole site using them. Whee!

Picture pages, picture pages...

O.K.! I finally got some of these pictures online!

The first new set is from our visit to Gambrill State Park back in February. We had oodles of fun and we hope to go back there once it stops raining consistently, so we don't have to go through so much mud this time.

The next set is a small one from when Sarah went up to Connecticut. She was supposed to go to a literature festival, but circumstances conspired against her, so she just spent time hanging out with her long-time friend, Susan.

The next set is from this year's Sakura Matsuri. I got down there pretty late and it was pretty cold out, but I had a good time. This was my first time, so I didn't know what to expect, but I later heard oodles of complaints about it. Ah well. It was still neat enough. And hey... it was free... so I don't really have any reason to complain.

The last two sets were taken on the same day. We usually go away for our anniversary, but Sarah's been extremely busy lately because of grad school, so we just decided to take a short day trip. Our destination was The Land of Little Horses, so the first set is from there. The drive up was beautiful and, though we made it there too late to really see much of the animals, we still had a fun time.

The final set comes from something we just stumbled across on the way home. We drove home a different way than we drove up to Gettysburg (which, by the way, was WAY commercial and extremely busy... not sure I even want to try to go there for the historical significance... at least not in nice weather). Along the way, we saw a sign for The Grotto of Lourdes. Having no idea what it was and feeling adventurous (and not too tired yet), we decided to stop in. What greeted us was a very beautiful, serene shrine with beautiful statuary, excellent flora, and some pretty neat mosaics. Though I'm not religious at all, I definitely can appreciate religious art.

So... there are the pictures! Enjoy.

Hrmph.

I guess I've sort of gone off the whole web kick or something. Either that or I've just been playing way too much FFXI. I just haven't felt like posting much here or doing anything with the site. Haven't even gotten back to posting things for my MP3 of the Week page. Ah well...

Kids are pretty much done at school, so the halls are quiet again. It's going to be a busy summer here, but hopefully we'll manage to get all the projects done. We'll see.

Dreading the move and wondering how we're going to manage to accomplish it with the weird way things are. May have to live in two places at once for a couple months.

I want cake.

I am returning

Hi! I'm returning to blogging. After 5 or 6 years being on the same server, I was just moved to a newer, faster machine with newer software on it, so I could install the latest and greatest MovableType, among other things. I've been in the midst of redesigning my page anyhow, so I figured this was a good enough time to go ahead and do everything at once. Most of the rest of my pages are done now, but they're hidden because there are no links to them at the moment. I also need to redesign the look of the blog page to match that of the new look of my other pages. So... bear with me. It'll all happen eventually. This looks pretty for now as it is. Probably prettier than what I'll come up with, even. But we'll see how we do.
